LOVE LETTER
IMPACT.
for those raised in multigenerational homes: the familiar warmth, conflicts, and unspoken bonds shared between grandparents, parents and grandchildren. for those who haven’t: a window into the culturally rich experiences of immigrant families, a deeper understanding of intergenerational relationships and the ways heritage shapes identity in a diverse city.
Director. Thipika Balakrishnan
is a driven first-generation Canadian Tamil filmmaker who continues to hone her craft through music videos and narrative films. Her debut short film BID (2023) screened at ToIndie, IFFSA, and the New Filmmakers NY Festival. She has since directed STATIC (2024), Love Letter (2025), and a series of music videos including Unnaale and Senorita, all of which have gained strong festival and online recognition. Alongside her filmmaking, Thipika brings deep experience from her work in community crisis response in Toronto. Her passion for community development and her own lived experiences led her to found PALAN, a community-led collective advocating for greater representation and opportunities in the film industry. Thipika’s work reflects her vision to explore the bicultural experience, illuminating the unique challenges and triumphs of navigating two different worlds. Rooted in both artistry and social impact, her films and advocacy reflect her commitment to amplifying marginalized voices while creating compelling, emotionally resonant stories.
